The Emerging Conversation about the Emerging Church in Pittsburgh

God is on the move; the winds of the Spirit are blowing through our region. Can you feel it? Do you see it? Are you a part of it?

I hope you will add your voice to the ongoing conversation about the emerging church in the greater Pittsburgh region.

On February 9 we will have a great opportunity to connect with one another and engage in some quality conversation about the shape of the emerging church in our part of the world. John Franke, author and faculty member at Biblical Seminary, will be in Pittsburgh for a number of important gatherings.

There are events during the afternoon at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and an evening gathering at the Open Door (contact BJ Woodworth at bj@pghopendoor.org).

Our hope, prayer, and commitment to catalyst this experience and leverage the energy as we seek the shape of the movement in the days ahead. That might include things like more regular gatherings and missional orders (and may not for that matter), but we truly need your input and ideas. If you would like to be a part of that process, I would love to hear from you.

Grace and Peace,

Terry Timm

I get the feeling you need to "be somebody" to be a part of the "emergent".

I think bruced hits on a valid problem in the emergent conversation. there is always a bit of the superstar Christian posturing that happens there. but it is everywhere unless we are rooted in christ and him alone. i want to hear your voice regardless of your knownness or unknownness.

I would agree with BruceD that there seems to be a whiff of elitism popping out of the Emergent movement. I plan on attending the events at PTS in February and hope to be prooved wrong.

Question... does one have to believe as you do to hang out with you guys? I believe that God's grace is far greater than any of us can even imagine. Would I be permitted to gather with you all?

I wonder if the only way to avoid elitism anywhere and everywhere is to view absolutely all people as completely and totally equal and on the same level as a result of the work of the cross.

for me, one of the liberating aspects of the emerging movement has been the freedom to think, believe, and live differently. i know that freaks out many in the _________ bubble (whatever bubble you believe exists out there). the journey is enriched by the variety of voices along the way.
